With the Cleveland Cavaliers advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals, here some quick shots from Game 6.
- If Jason Kidd or LeBron James want to win an NBA championship anytime soon, why doesn’t Cleveland trade for Kidd? I don’t know how many guys the Cavs would need to get rid of, but they could easily part with Daniel Gibson, Donyell Marshall, Damon Jones, and Anderson Varejao’s ‘fro.
- At this stage of his career, why is Jason Kidd still allowed to shoot? I love how Lawrence Frank brings in Eddie House to play with him as an almost friendly intervention to get Kidd to stop jacking up threes.
- Whether it works or not, when you’re depending on Larry Hughes and Donyell Marshall as your premier three-point threats, it’s time to stop thinking playoffs and start thinking about summer free agency, cap room, and getting LeBron some shooters. Maybe Cavs GM Danny Ferry will finally activate himself, just like Roger Dorn in Major League II. In retrospect, it’s amazing that this franchise parted ways with a young Jason Kapono.
- Cavs center Zydrunas Ilgauskas might be the best NBA player that hasn’t jumped since 2001. Key word is “might”.
- Nets big man (and 2007 unrestricted free agent) Mikki Moore has come on so strong over the last thirty or so games it’s like he recently hired Jim McIlvaine, Calvin Booth, and Todd McCullough as financial advisors / life coaches. Mikki’s better than all three of those guys, but somebody’s still gonna pony up way too much cash for him this summer.
- After LeBron James picked up his 4th foul in the third quarter, the Cavs looked like they couldn’t beat the Florida Gators.
- Every time that Yugoslavian-born Cavs wing Sasha Pavlovic scores on the Nets, I like to think that the late Drazen Petrovic is watching somewhere, smiling, and saying, “Yeah, I was way better than that guy”.
- Both born in 1970, Cavs coach Mike Brown and Nets coach Lawrence Frank are the two youngest coaches in the NBA. So if you’re scoring at home, they were in junior high when Mavs center Kevin Willis started playing for the Hawks.
- Don’t score at home. We’re playing for fun here. But if you’re trying to score at home and failing, you’re still doing better than New Jersey’s “Big Three” during the fourth quarter.
- Well, game over. Time to blow up the Nets roster this summer! Let the Marcus Williams-Josh Boone era begin in the Meadowlands. I’m feeling for ya, Nets fans.
